As stated by the State Institute for Drug Control (SUKL), “The use of ibuprofen, according to an approved leaflet, is an effective and safe treatment for fever and pain.” Ibuprofen belongs to a group of so-called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and fever. In Slovakia, it is available in over-the-counter and prescription-only medicines.
“False information that has begun to spread is probably related to the publication of the article in The Lancet in the Correspondence section, where the author asks whether patients with hypertension and diabetes are at increased risk of getting COVID-19. The author hypothesizes that patients treated with a group ACE inhibitors, angiotensin II receptor blockers, thiazolidinediones, but also ibuprofen may have a more severe to fatal COVID-19 course. The author of the article himself warns several times that this is a hypothesis for which there is no scientific evidence, ”ŠÚKL pointed out.
“As with all medicines, medicines containing ibuprofen and paracetamol should be taken in accordance with the Package Leaflet and the recommended dosage.
